BeMed supports island-based projects to fight against marine plastic litter. 18 months after the beginning of the programme, first results are ready to be shared by modular projects’ representatives, and to be included to the Blue Print the IUCN-Med will publish on plastic pollution on Med islands. The aim is to create synergies with related regional initiatives and other participants to achieve a long-term impact in reducing plastic pollution at sea.
The session is organised by the Mediterranean – International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-Med) and the BEMED-Islands capitalisation process, led by the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) and the Association Small Islands Organisation (SMILO).
At the session, 6 project members of the community will share their results and lessons learnt. We will also hear from final beneficiaries, such as restaurants, schools or shops how they have benefitted from this support.
In Monaco, Pedro Fernandez (SCP/RAC) will present the BEMED-Islands capitalization project and the links with regional policies, mentioning the Policy brief released at the occasion of COP22 of the Barcelona Convention, the contributions to the updated Regional Plan on Marine Litter and other links with regional policies.
